CHOI LAB

최혜영은 조경설계가면서 동시에 도시와 경관을 탐구하는 연구자다. 뉴욕 EDAW l AECOM, West8 뉴욕 오피스에서 전 세계 다양한 문화권의 유수 프로젝트를 담당하며 설계가의 기본을 다졌다. 2012년 ‘용산공원 설계 국제공모전’에서 팀의 당선을 이끌었고, 서울로 돌아와 ‘용산공원 기본설계 및 공원조성계획 수립 프로젝트’의 리더로 일했다. 이 때의 경험은 그녀가 진정성 있는 설계가로 성장하는데 큰 도움을 주었다.

2017년부터는 성균관대학교 건설환경공학부 및 대학원 조경학과에서 학생들을 가르쳐 왔다. 설계 실무 및 교육 과정의 경험을 토대로 설계 방법론, 참여 설계, 공원 접근성, 공원 아카이브, 도시 리질리언스 등 다양한 주제의 연구를 수행했으며, 데이터 기반의 행태 연구로 연구 주제 및 방법을 확장해 나가고 있다.

최혜영은 서울대학교 조경학과를 졸업하고 (미)펜실베니아대학교에서 조경학 석사학위, 다시 서울대학교에서 박사학위를 받았다. 서울시 공공조경가, 서울시 공공미술위원회 위원, 서울시 교육청 공공건축심의위원회 위원 등 다양한 분야의 전문 위원으로 활동하였다. 공저서로 용산공원 설계 국제공모 출품작 비평(2013), 공간닥터 프로젝트 vol.1(2020), 도시설계의 이해: 실무편(2020), 한국의 도시재생: 도시를 살리는 다섯 가지 해법(2022)이 있다.

Hyeyoung Choi has much experience in designing and planning and managing landscape and urban projects at a variety of scales. She sees opportunities in every project and brings an innovative design approach to her work. She also has exceptional design and management skills, and construction expertise and plays a key role in multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout the design process.

Prior to joining Sungkyunkwan University, Hyeyoung led West8 Team to win the international design competition for the 243-ha Yongsan Park, the 1st National Urban Park in Seoul, Korea and developed the design to the schematic level. She also designed the 180-acre Governors Island Park and Public Space which won a Design Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter in 2015.

Throughout her work, Hyeyoung looks towards the intersection of landscape, urbanism, ecology, and the humanistic approach. Projects such as Yongsan Park, Yeouido Riverfront Park Master Plan in Seoul, and Public Garden in Ulsan tell her design ethos.

Hyeyoung received a Doctor of Philosophy from the Seoul National University, a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Design, as well as a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with highest honors from the Seoul National University. She was a Public Landscape Architect for the Seoul Metropolitan Government. She is also a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture.

학부연구생은 학부 2-4학년 학생 중 조경도시연구실에서 수행하는 설계 실무 및 연구 과제에 참여하는 학생들로 구성된다.

석사과정은 총 4학기로, 설계 스튜디오 중심으로 운영된다. 학생들은 각자 관심 있는 주제를 정해 이에 대해 깊이 있는 연구를 수행하며, 그 과정에서 습득한 지식을 설계 프로젝트에 적용한다. 주제는 동시대 설계 이론, 도시 재생, 건강 도시 등 다양하다. 2018년부터 석사과정 졸업생들이 배출되었으며 이들은 한국과 중국 등 세계 여러 지역의 설계 회사, 엔지니어링 회사 등에서 근무하고 있다.

석박통합과정 및 박사과정은 총 4학기 수료 이후 학위 논문을 작성하게 되며, 학위 논문 심사 전 SCIE급 논문을 1편 이상 출판해야 한다.

Undergraduate research students consist of undergraduate students in their 2nd to 4th year who participate in design and research projects conducted by the Landscape and Urban Studies Lab.

The master's course is a total of 4 semesters and is operated focused on the design studio. Students select a topic of interest, conduct in-depth research on it, and apply the knowledge acquired in the process to a design project. Topics are not limited but include contemporary design theory, urban regeneration, and healthy cities. Master Graduates are working for design and engineering firms in Korea and China.

Students in the Integrated PhD Program and Doctoral Course can begin the dissertation after the completion of a total of 4 semesters, and at least one SCIE article must be published before the dissertation review.
